How do you rate the AC ratings of laminate floors?
AC is the rating of quality laminate flooring. AC stands for Abrasion Coefficient. AC ratings are not given to low quality flooring. If the floor is AC1-rated, it’s still a good quality flooring.
They are suitable for different areas because of the differences between them. The wear resistance is measured by the abrasion coefficient. Its levels range from 1 to 6 From AC1 to AC6.
What is the AC Rating on Laminate Flooring?
AC-rated laminate flooring is of high quality. It means they’ve passed every test. The series of tests are called the “Taber Abrasion Test”. This includes testing for impact resistance as well as the resistance of the material to stains, scratches, heat, and moisture. Only when the flooring has passed each test is it awarded with an AC rating. It does not receive a rating if it fails at least one test. The result will be “not rated” if it doesn’t meet all the quality requirements.
The classification is divided into six categories, AC1 through AC6. Within these six levels, there are also two subcategories: residential and commercial. The higher the level, the more traffic it can withstand. There are different levels of traffic.

- High intensity
The thickness of a piece may also influence the classification. The thicker a floor is, the more resistant it will be, and the higher its AC classification.
